The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
