Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He says, “I destroyed vast wealth.” 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
