The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the sun and its midmorning, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 And [by] the day when it displays it 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 By the heaven and That which built it 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 and by the soul and that (Power) which designed it 7 And given the faculty of knowing what is disruptive and what is intrinsic to it. 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when the most wicked man among them rose up. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 and He fears not the issue thereof. 15
