The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the sun and its light 1 and by the moon as it follows it, 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 and the earth and all its expanse! 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 Prosperous is he who purifies it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
