The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 But save him who fears 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And no one has done a favour to him, for which he should be compensated. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
