The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
