The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night, when it envelops, 1 and the day as it rises bright! 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And accepts the best, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 But save him who fears 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
