The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 and rejects what is right, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
