The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it unveils. 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 Except the seeking of the pleasure of his Lord, the Most High. 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
