The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
