The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 and have no faith in receiving any reward (from God). 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
