The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night as it envelops; 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have warned you about the fierce blazing fire 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 He verily will be content. 21
