The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
