The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 and rejects what is right, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 It is indeed for Us to show the way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 And not [giving] for anyone who has [done him] a favor to be rewarded 19 acting only for the sake of his Lord the Most High -- 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
