The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL THE night to witness when it covers over, 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 and rejects what is right, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
