And to the Thamud [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him. There has come to you clear evidence from your Lord. This is the she-camel of Allah [sent] to you as a sign. So leave her to eat within Allah 's land and do not touch her with harm, lest there seize you a painful punishment. 73 Remember, how you were made leaders after the people of 'Ad, and were settled on the land so that you could construct on the plains palaces, and carve dwellings out of mountains. So think of the favours of God, and do not act with corruption in the land." 74 Said the eminent ones who were arrogant among his people to those who were oppressed - to those who believed among them, "Do you [actually] know that Salih is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that with which he was sent, are believers." 75 The haughty ones remarked. 'Most certainly we disbelieve in that which you believe.' 76 So they slew the she-camel and revolted against their Lord's commandment, and they said: O Salih! bring us what you threatened us with, if you are one of the apostles. 77 Thereupon an earthquake overtook them: and then they lay lifeless, in their very homes, on the ground. 78 Saleh turned away from them and said: "O my people, I conveyed to you the message of my Lord and warned you; but you do not like those who wish you well." 79 And We sent Lot, who said to his people: "Why do you commit this lecherous act which none in the world has committed before? 80 You approach men lustfully instead of women. Truly, you are a nation who exceed (in sin)' 81 And the answer of his people was only that they said (one to another): Turn them out of your township. They are folk, forsooth, who keep pure. 82 So We delivered him and his followers, except his wife; she was of those who remained behind. 83 And We rained upon them a rain [of stones]. Then see how was the end of the criminals. 84
