The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
God the Almighty always says the truth.
