The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
