The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Recite thou: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What is your opinion if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
