The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 or orders piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
