The Embryo (Al-Alaq)

19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)

In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate

Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 or orders piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No, not at all. Never obey him. But prostrate yourself and become nigh (to your Lord). ۩ 19
