Al-Alaq
The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 a servant [of God] from praying? 10 Did you consider: what if he is on the Right Way, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the angels of Hell. 18 No, indeed; do not obey him! Prostrate and come nearer (to Allah). ۩ 19
