The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
