The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 He created man from a clot of blood. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.). 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
