Those of the Children of Israel who went astray were cursed by the tongue of David, and of Jesus, son of Mary. That was because they rebelled and used to transgress. 78 They forbade not one another any dishonour that they committed; surely evil were the things they did. 79 You see many of them taking the disbelievers as their Auliya' (protectors and helpers). Evil indeed is that which their ownselves have sent forward before them, for that (reason) Allah's Wrath fell upon them and in torment they will abide. 80 And had they believed in Allah and the prophet and what was revealed to him, they would not have taken them for friends but! most of them are transgressors. 81 ۞ You will surely find the most intense of the people in animosity toward the believers [to be] the Jews and those who associate others with Allah; and you will find the nearest of them in affection to the believers those who say, "We are Christians." That is because among them are priests and monks and because they are not arrogant. 82 For when they listen to what has been revealed to this Apostle, you can see their eyes brim over with tears at the truth which they recognise, and say: "O Lord, we believe; put us down among those who bear witness (to the truth). 83 Why should we not believe in God and the Truth that has come to us and hope that the Lord will admit us into the company of the righteous people?" 84 And for their words God will reward them with Gardens through which rivers flow, wherein they shall abide forever. That is the reward of those who do good. 85 And those who disbelieved and denied Our signs, are the people of hell. 86
