The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe unto the defrauders: 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 And who, when they measure unto them or weigh for them, diminish. 3 Do such people not realize that they will be raised up, 4 [and called to account] on an awesome Day 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed! The record of the wicked is in the Sijjin -- 7 How will you comprehend what Sijjin is? 8 It is a Book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 Who give the lie to the day of judgment. 11 No one rejects it except the sinful transgressors 12 who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!” 13 Not at all – but rather their earnings have heaped rust upon their hearts. 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 and then they shall enter Hell, 16 Then it will be said: 'this is that which ye were wont to belie.' 17 Surely the ledger of the pious will be in 'Illiyun (heights above the heights). 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 The virtuous will surely be in bliss, 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 They will be given a drink of pure wine whereon the seal [of God] will have been set, 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 a wine tempered with the waters of Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 Behold, the sinners were laughing at the believers, 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 And upon seeing the Muslims, they used to say, “Indeed they have gone astray.” 32 Whereas they were not sent over them as watchers. 33 But on this Day the Believers will laugh at the Unbelievers: 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 Surely the disbelievers are rewarded as they did. 36
