The Thamud tribe denied the Noble Messengers. 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And do not obey the bidding of the extravagant, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said, "Here is a she-camel. She shall have her turn of drinking, as you have yours, each on an appointed day, 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
