HAST THOU, then, ever considered him who turns away [from remembering Us, and cares for no more than the life of this world,] 33 and gives so little [of himself for the good of his soul,] and so grudgingly? 34 Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see? 35 Or is he not informed with what is in the Pages (Scripture) of Musa (Moses), 36 And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] - 37 that no soul shall bear the burden of another; 38 That man can have nothing but what he strives for; 39 He will certainly see the result of his labor 40 Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete; 41 And that the end is only towards your Lord? 42 That it is He who makes you happy and morose, 43 And He who ordains death and life; 44 and that He Himself created the two sexes: male and female, 45 From a sperm-drop when it is emitted 46 and that upon Him rests the second growth, 47 That it is He who makes you rich and contented; 48 And that He only is the Lord of the star Sirius? 49 And that He destroyed the former 'A-ad. 50 And Thamud - and He did not spare [them] - 51 as well as the people of Noah before them - [since,] verily, they all had been most willful in their evildoing and most overweening 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 so that there came upon them that which came. 54 About which, then, of thy Sustainer's powers canst thou [still] remain in doubt? 55 He who warns you is one of the warners of old. 56 The near event draws nigh. 57 None besides Allah can avert it, (or advance it, or delay it). 58 Then at this statement do you wonder? 59 And you laugh, and do not weep! 60 Wasting your (precious) lifetime in pastime and amusements (singing, etc.). 61 Therefore prostrate for Allah, and worship Him.
