The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat the other third? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
