The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Roman Empire has been defeated- 2 in the lands close-by; yet it is they who, notwithstanding this their defeat, shall be victorious 3 in a few years. All power belongs to Allah both before and after. On that day will the believers rejoice 4 In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. 5 (This is) Allah's promise! Allah will not fail His promise, but most people do not know. 6 They know only some appearance of the life of the world, and are heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 What, have they not journeyed in the land and beheld how was the end of those before them? They were stronger than themselves in might, and they ploughed up the earth and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it; and their Messengers came to them with the clear signs; and God would never wrong them, but themselves they wronged. 9 In the long run evil in the extreme will be the End of those who do evil; for that they rejected the Signs of Allah, and held them up to ridicule. 10
