Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The sure calamity! 1 And what is that indubitable event? 2 And what do you know what that indubitable event is? 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Ad denied that disaster would strike them: 4 But the Thamud,- they were destroyed by a terrible Storm of thunder and lightning! 5 as for Aad, they were destroyed by a howling, violent wind 6 Which Allah imposed on them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so that you could see men lying overthrown (destroyed), as if they were hollow trunks of date-palms! 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 And there was Pharaoh, too, and [many of] those who lived before him, and the cities that were overthrown - [all of them] indulged in sin upon sin 9 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity]. 10 Verily when the water rose to great heights, We bore you upon a floating vessel (i.e. the Ark) 11 In order to make it a warning for you, and that the ear retentive may preserve it. 12 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast 13 And the earth and mountains heaved and crushed to powder with one levelling blow, 14 Then, on that day will the Event befall. 15 And the sky will be rent asunder, for it will that Day be flimsy, 16 and the angels shall stand upon its borders, and upon that day eight shall carry above them the Throne of thy Lord. 17 On that Day you will be brought to judgement and none of your secrets will remain hidden. 18 Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record! 19 Certainly I thought that I should encounter my reckoning.' 20 So he shall be in a life, well-pleasing. 21 In a high garden 22 The fruits of which are near at hand: 23 We shall say to him, "Eat and drink joyfully as a reward for the good deeds you did in days gone by." 24 But, he who is given his book in his left hand will say: 'Woe to me, would that my book had not been given to me! 25 and that we would never knew what our records contained. 26 Oh, would that this [death of mine] had been the end of me! 27 “My wealth did not in the least benefit me.” 28 "My power has perished from me!"... 29 Seize him and fetter him, 30 "And burn ye him in the Blazing Fire. 31 then in a chain seventy arm's lengths long insert him. 32 Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous, 33 “And did not urge to feed the needy.” 34 That is why he has no friend today, 35 and no food except pus 36 “Which none except the guilty shall eat.” 37
