Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 The while they are given, to drink, of a boiling hot spring, 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 (Other) faces, that Day, will be joyful, 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
God the Almighty always says the truth.
