When the messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: "Verily! You are people unknown to me." 62 They said: nay! we have come to thee with that whereof they have been dubitating. 63 and we have come to you with the truth, and surely we are truthful, 64 "So leave with your family late in the night, yourself remaining in the rear, and let none turn back to look, and go where you will be commanded." 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 [Lot] said, "Indeed, these are my guests, so do not shame me. 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 He said, “These women of our tribe are my daughters, if you have to.” 71 By your life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement. 72 Then the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the sunrise. 73 and turned the land upside down, and rained down stones of baked clay. 74 There are certainly signs in that for those who can learn a lesson -- 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 Verily in that is a sign for the believers. 77 And indeed the Dwellers of the Woods were unjust. 78 So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway. 79
