Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They shall roast into the scalding Fire, 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions lined up 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
