We verily created man and We know what his soul whispereth to him, and We are nearer to him than his jugular vein. 16 (Remember!) that the two receivers (recording angels) receive (each human being after he or she has attained the age of puberty), one sitting on the right and one on the left (to note his or her actions). 17 He utters not a word, but there is a vigilant watcher at hand. 18 And the stupor of death will bring Truth (before his eyes): "This was the thing which thou wast trying to escape!" 19 The trumpet will certainly be sounded. This will be the day (about which you) were threatened. 20 Each person will arrive attended by an [angel] to drive him on and another to bear witness. 21 You were heedless of this. Now We have removed your veil and so your vision today is sharp. 22 His companion will say: "Here is (the record) I have ready with me." 23 (And it is said): Do ye twain hurl to hell each rebel ingrate, 24 Preventer of good, aggressor, and doubter, 25 Who had set up another god with God. Cast him into severe torment." 26 ۞ Man's other self' will say: "O our Sustainer! It was not I that led his conscious mind into evil [nay,] but it had gone far astray [of its own accord]! 27 He will say, “Do not dispute before Me – I had already warned you of the punishment.” 28 No word is to be exchanged in My presence. I am not unjust to My servants". 29
