Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 in a garden sublime, 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of God the Almighty.
