The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the beloved shining star Mohammed (peace and blessings be upon him), when he returned from the Ascent. 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That, then, is an unjust division. 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
