And the eminent among his people who disbelieved and denied the meeting of the Hereafter while We had given them luxury in the worldly life said, "This is not but a man like yourselves. He eats of that from which you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 "If ye obey a man like yourselves, behold, it is certain ye will be lost. 34 Does he give you a promise that when you are dead and turned to dust and bones, you will be raised to life again? 35 ۞ Begone, begone, with that which ye are promised! 36 There is only the life of this world: We die and we live: there is no rising from the dead for us. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me." 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No community can anticipate their term, nor can they lay behind. 43 Then sent We our messengers in succession: every time there came to a people their messenger, they accused him of falsehood: so We made them follow each other (in punishment): We made them as a tale (that is told): So away with a people that will not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our tokens and a clear warrant 45 to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. 46 And they said: Shall we put faith in two mortals like ourselves, and whose folk are servile unto us? 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 And We verily gave Moses the Scripture, that haply they might go aright. 49 And We made the son of Marium and his mother a sign, and We gave them a shelter on a lofty ground having meadows and springs. 50
