Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 (Also consider the people of) the Pharaoh who victimized people by placing them on the stake, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 So man, whenever his Lord tests him by giving him honour and favours – thereupon he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you readily devour the inheritance with greed. 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter then My garden." 30
