“O Noble Messengers, eat good clean things, and do good deeds; I know all that you do.” 51 Verily this your order is one order, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. 52 But people later cut up their religion into bits, each group rejoicing in what they have. 53 So leave them in their intoxication till a time. 54 Do they think that what We extend to them of wealth and children 55 We would hasten them on in every good? Nay, they do not understand. 56 Indeed those who are overwhelmed due to the fear of their Lord – 57 And those who believe in the signs of their Lord – 58 And they who do not associate anything with their Lord 59 and who give whatever they [have to] give with their hearts trembling at the thought that unto their Sustainer they must return: 60 It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salat (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on]. 61 And [withal.] We do not burden any human being with more than he is well able to bear: for with Us is a record that speaks the truth [about what men do and can do]; and none shall be wronged. 62 Nay, their hearts are in overwhelming ignorance with respect to it and they have besides this other deeds which they do. 63 But then when We seize the affluent among them, they will cry out for help. 64 (It will be said): "Groan not in supplication this day: for ye shall certainly not be helped by Us. 65 Time and again were My messages conveyed unto you, but [every time] you would turn about on your heels 66 In scorn thereof. Nightly did ye rave together. 67 Have they not pondered the Word, or hath that come unto them which came not unto their fathers of old? 68 Or know they not their messenger, and so reject him? 69 Or do they say, 'He is bedevilled'? Nay, he has brought them the truth, but most of them are averse from the truth. 70 And if the Truth had followed their desires, verily the heavens and the earth and whosoever is therein had been corrupted. Nay, We have brought them their Reminder, but from their Reminder they now turn away. 71 Or is it that thou askest them for some recompense? But the recompense of thy Lord is best: He is the Best of those who give sustenance. 72 And verily thou! thou callest them unto a Path straight. 73 but those who do not believe in the Hereafter are ever prone to deviate from the Right Way. 74 ۞ And if We have mercy upon them and remove the calamity which has befallen them, they would still stubbornly persist, wandering in their rebellion. 75 We seized them with the punishment, but they did not surrender to their Lord, nor will they humble themselves 76 until We opened the gate of greater torment (death) and they suddenly found themselves in despair. 77
