Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HA MIM. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and that between them, if you would be certain. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Whereas they had then turned away from him and said, “He is a madman, tutored!”? 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 and I take refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you should stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea behind at rest, for lo! they are a drowned host. 24 How many were the gardens, springs, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And the delights which they had been enjoying! 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And the heaven and the earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
