He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
