Al-Shams

The Sun (Al-Shams)

15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 By the Night as it conceals it; 4 And by oath of the heaven and by oath of Him Who made it. 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 by the soul and Who shaped it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 and truly lost is he who buries it [in darkness]. 10 The people of Thamud rejected (the truth) as a result of their rebelliousness 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
