We created man out of dry clay, from moulded mud, 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 Then the angels bowed themselves all together, 30 Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated. 31 He said: 'iblis, what is the matter with you, that you do you not prostrate yourself' 32 Said he, 'I would never bow myself before a mortal whom Thou hast created of a clay of mud moulded.' 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and the curse shall be on you till the Day of Judgement!" 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 He said: My Lord! because Thou hast made life evil to me, I will certainly make (evil) fair-seeming to them on earth, and I will certainly cause them all to deviate 39 [all] save such of them as are truly Thy servants!" 40 (Allah) said: "This (way of My sincere servants) is indeed a way that leads straight to Me. 41 and you have no authority over My servants except the erring ones who follow you. 42 And verily, Hell is the promised abode for them all! 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
