Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said: It is all one to us whether thou preachest or art not of those who preach; 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
