Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 Say: 'Await! I shall be awaiting with you.' 31 Nay! do their understandings bid them this? Or are they an inordinate people? 32 Or do they say: "He himself has composed this [message]"? Nay, but they are not willing to believe! 33 Let them produce a discourse like it if they are true in their claim. 34 Have they not been created by aught, or are they the creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain. 36 Or, are the treasures of your Lord in their keeping? Or, are they the controllers? 37 Or have they a ladder by which they could [ascend to ultimate truths and] listen [to what is beyond the reach of human perception]? Let, then, any of them who have listened [to it] produce a manifest proof [of his knowledge]! 38 Or has He only daughters and ye have sons? 39 Or is it that [they who reject thy message, O Muhammad, fear lest] thou ask of them a reward, so that they would be burdened with debt [if they should listen to thee]? 40 Or that the Ghaib (unseen) is with them, and they write it down? 41 Or do they want to stage a deception? -- Then only those who do not believe will be the ones who will be tricked. 42 Or do they have a god apart from God? He is too exalted for what they associate with Him! 43 And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, "[It is merely] clouds heaped up." 44 Then leave them, till they encounter their day wherein they shall be thunderstruck, 45 The Day their plan will not avail them at all, nor will they be helped. 46 Surely a chastisement awaits the wrong-doers even before the coming of that Day; but most of them do not know. 47 Be patient, then, (O Prophet), until the judgement of your Lord comes. For surely you are before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise, 48 And glorify Him in the night and when the stars begin to wane. 49
