▼ 56 The Inevitable
Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 If We pleased, We would have made it salty; why do you not then give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
