The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
