He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
