It is God [alone that has this power - He] who causes all human beings to die at the time of their [bodily] death, and [causes to be as dead,] during their sleep, those that have not yet died: thus, He withholds [from life] those upon whom He has decreed death, and lets the others go free for a term set [by Him]. In [all] this, behold, there are messages indeed for people who think! 42 And yet, they choose [to worship,] side by side with God, [imaginary] intercessors!" Say: "Why - even though they have no power over anything, and no understanding?" 43 Say, "To Allah belongs [the right to allow] intercession entirely. To Him belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. Then to Him you will be returned." 44 And when Allah the One God is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter get constricted; and when others (false deities) besides Him are mentioned, they rejoice! 45 Say: O Allah! Originator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen! Thou (only) judgest between Thy servants as to that wherein they differ. 46 And those who did wrong (the polytheists and disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah), if they had all that is in earth and therewith as much again, they verily, would offer it to ransom themselves therewith on the Day of Resurrection from the evil torment, and there will become apparent to them from Allah, what they had not been reckoning. 47 and there would appear to them die evils of that they have earned, and they would be encompassed by that they mocked at. 48 When some affliction visits a man, he calls unto Us; then, when We confer on him a blessing from Us, he says, 'I was given it only because of a knowledge.' Nay, it is a trial, but most of them do not know it. 49 Thus did the (generations) before them say! But all that they did was of no profit to them. 50 So, the evil results of that which they earned overtook them. And those who did wrong of these [people to whom you (Muhammad SAW) have been sent], will also be overtaken by the evil results (torment) for that which they earned, and they will never be able to escape. 51 Do they not know that Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]? Indeed in that are signs for a people who believe. 52
